Pretties From The Past

My little vintage dolls are made of porcelain and bisque, and they range in height from 2″ to 4.5″, shorter than a teacup!

Some I’ve found in antique stores over the years, and some were childhood treasures – (or “pretties,” as we called them growing up in the South) – of my mother, who gave them to me for my … small (couldn’t help the pun!) … collection.

Magic, pure magic!

“When I was about six years old I decided to make a teddy bears’ picnic in our dining room, so I set up 10 dolls and teddy bears around the table and made them each an apricot jam sandwich. It was only when I sat down that I realized I’d made 10 apricot jam sandwiches for 10 inanimate objects, and that I’d have to eat them all.”

“I was the kind of girl who’d peep through her bedroom keyhole to check if her dolls were moving.”

-Juno Temple

“I would ask my mum to feed my dolls and make sure they were tucked in when I went to school.”

-Gayle Rankin
